Murrumbidgee socio-economic profile: a study conducted for the Pratt Water Murrumbidgee Valley Water Efficiency Feasibility Project

  • Year: 2003
  • Author: Curtis A; Herrera E > Kelson S
  • Publisher: Australian Bureau of Rural Sciences
  • ISBN: 064255272X
  • Country: Australia
  • State/Region: New South Wales

The aim of the feasibility study is to provide a 'business case' for alternative investment options to achieve increased water efficiency and productivity in the Murrumbidgee Valley providing for restoration of environmental flows, enhanced water security and expansion of irrigation leading to broader environmental, economic and social outcomes. It is thought that increased security and growth of irrigation industries may be a catalyst for growth in other sectors such as processing, transport, wholesaling and retailing and that improved environmental amenity would also have a general positive impact on the community. This report will establish the socio-economic context of the Murrumbidgee Valley through a secondary data profile of the human capital, human-produced economic capital and social and institutional capital of the Valley.
