Health in rural and remote areas of Australia: summary report prepared for the Australian Commonwealth Department of Health and Ageing

This is a summary of an Australian Longitudinal Study on Women's Health technical report. In terms of physical health and quality of life, the project finds surprisingly few differences between women living in different parts of Australia, though there are some risk factors for the health of women living outside urban areas, including smoking and alcohol consumption and incidence of being overweight. Women in rural areas have poorer access to health services than women in the cities, and the younger women cohort report the poorest access. The report outlines atitudes and access to general practitioners, access to screening services, and experiences of mental health and abuse.
