Health care is one of the major issues facing people in rural, regional and remote areas. Throughout much of rural and regional Australia there is a shortage of health care providers, high turnover in the health workforce, and major problems in gaining access to services. These problems are worse in remote communities. This document provides a snapshot of rural and regional Australia and outlines the Government's regional health strategy. Also included are three fact sheets: Growing and strengthening the rural health professional workforce; Enhancing rural education and training for health professionals; and, Better health services for rural and regional Australia.
