Generation X-pendable: young, rural and looking for work: an examination of young people's perceptions of employment opportunities in rural areas
In this study, young people, parents and community representatives in the small towns of Temora, Leeton, Forbes and Eden, New South Wales were interviewed about local employment opportunities for young people. The report explains the methodology and recommendations and discusses the following findings: small town culture; the importance of industry; work practices; Austudy and Youth Allowance; issues for business people in small country towns; young people in country towns; issues for young people; issues for school principals and career advisers; issues for Centrelink and Job Network staff; issues for council employees; and findings relating specifically to Woolworths. Appendices include profiles of the towns and the questionnaires used in the study.
