Evaluation of the FaCSIA family violence programs: Family Violence Regional Activities Program ; Family Violence Partnership Program (FVRAP-FVPP)

This report presents findings of an evaluation of two Indigenous-specific family violence prevention programs managed by the Department of Families, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs in Australia. The Family Violence Regional Activities Program (FVRAP) is a grants program that supports local community involvement in identifying, developing, and implementing family violence initiatives. In 2005-06 it allocated approximately $4.2 million in funding to 51 organisations. The Family Violence Partnership Program (FVPP) forms partnerships with State governments to fund family violence initiatives in Indigenous communities. There were 38 projects funded under FVPP as of June 2006. The evaluation examined 1) the effectiveness and efficiency of the FVRAP in providing support to projects identified by Indigenous communities; 2) the effectiveness and efficiency of the FVPP in developing a sustainable reduction in, and prevention of, Indigenous family violence; and 3) the appropriateness of the program's objectives as a means of reducing Indigenous family violence. This report includes findings and recommendations; policy context and previous family violence initiatives; analysis of program data; and an analysis of the programs against good practice standards, which include community engagement and sustainability.
