This paper examines the demand- and supply-side factors behind Indigenous joblessness, and presents recommendations for policy reform. It compares statistics on employment, unemployment, and work participation of Indigenous and other Australians, and reviews the determinants of labour force participation and unemployment, with excessive welfare in urban areas and insufficient education in remote areas found to be significant causes of unemployment.
