This issue of 'Climag' outlines CSIRO research on the effects of climate variability in the future which is forecast to influence the frequency of temperature extremes, and affect regional rainfall patterns and available soil moisture. Other reports in this issue include an article highlighting the need to integrate science and onfarm approaches to develop best practice techniques for managing climate variability, a report on a survey of farmers' awareness and use of seasonal climate forecasts, a report on the use of climate forecasting in the sugar industry, an update on the Climate Archives project, feedback from the Cli-Manage 2000 conference, an analysis of the links between the El Nino Southern Oscillation (ENSO) and major floodings of Lake Eyre SA, an analysis of the relationship between the Southern Oscillation Index (SOI) and winter rainfall in southern New South Wales and northern Victoria, and updates on climate research projects and forecasting approaches.
