Freight movement is a major part of the Yorke and Mid North‟s region economy. It provides the capacity to export product domestically, nationally and internationally. There are a number of strategic transport routes and modes within the region, including the National Adelaide to Perth / Darwin, Perth / Sydney & Broken Hill to Adelaide road and rail link. This links to state strategic and primary freight routes near Port Augusta and Crystal Brook providing efficient road and rail links within the region as well as to the Flinders Ranges, Murray and Mallee, and eastern states. The region has five active ports – Ardrossan, Klein Point, Port Giles, Port Pirie, and Wallaroo.
