NSW Farmers blueprint for maintaining the mental health and wellbeing of the people on NSW farms

  • Year: 2006
  • Author: Australian Centre for Agricultural Health and Safety
  • Publisher: NSW Farmers Mental Health Network
  • Published Location: Sydney, NSW
  • Country: Australia
  • State/Region: New South Wales

The Blueprint was launched in May 2006 by the NSW Farmers Association along with 18 other organisations. It is a simplified summary of key issues to address and major actions to take that the Rural Mental Health Network considers necessary to ease a 'mental health crisis' in regional areas - evidenced by farm male owners and managers committing suicide at around twice the rate of the national average. The blueprint is outlined as pathways to breakdown and pathways to health; it includes 22 areas of action, such as mental health first-aid training, farm support, access to financial counsellors, drought support workers, crisis lines and mental health services, improved drug and alcohol and other programs. On the online site each action area has live links to organisations or resources.
