Making a difference: rural health initiatives

All doctors wanting to be general practitioners are required to undertake a three or four year postgraduate training program. This training will be delivered in rural regions by autonomous regional consortia. Rural training will be delivered by rural doctors in rural regions for rural regions. As a consequence, general practice training will no longer be urban based. The composition of the rural/regional consortia and their interaction are discussed.
