A trail was conducted in Tasmania to evaluate the pathway for implementing consistent statewide collection and management of estuarine, coastal and marine environments monitoring data as part of the natural resource management (NRM) condition indicators in the coastal zone. NRM regional managers, and NRM project service providers participated in the trial. The results indicate that all key participants were keen to make further use of the Tasmanian Indicator Compendium which incorporates a Tasmanian Extension document for each Indicator. Service providers were already collecting data consistent with the standards documented in the Compendium. Barriers to broader implementation of the Compendium include a lack of policy and capacity on data management protocols and complications regarding intellectual property. Recommendations address the broader adoption of the Tasmanian Indicator Compendium, developing and implementing data management protocols, building capacity to adopt and implement the Tasmanian Indicator Compendium and reporting and evaluation requirements
