Resilience and Innovation in Indigenous Communities

The on‐line searches will include case studies of positive examples from around the world. Direct contacts will be made with leaders and principals of the selected case studies, to have conversations with them and learn of the nuances which occurred and as part of the process of development, which will be on‐going. • Contact and dialogue with ACIAR's Dr John Dixon has commenced to discuss possible examples in Vietnam, Indonesia and India. Dr Dixon has also provided personal contacts at the United Nation's Food & Agricultural Organisation who have been involved in projects with integrated food systems. • Liaison with Ms Jen Cleary from the University of South Australia has commenced. Ms Cleary's experience with many Aboriginal people and communities and working with them on bush tucker projects will be a valuable source of information about wild foods, both plants and animals. • Contact also will be made with UNICEF, La Via Campesina, OXFAM, Care Australia and Save the Children – organisations which have food and housing programs across the globe to ascertain the scope and characteristics of resilient indigenous communities. • The example of Gaviotas in Columbia could provide extraordinarily valuable information – this is a community of innovation created in harsh environmental conditions with astounding outcomes. • The Weston A Price Foundation has collected information from traditional societies with continuity for more than 400 years around the world.
