Psychology Services in Rural and Remote Australia

The paper examines the issues and challenges of delivering psychology services in rural and remote Australia. Rural populations face diverse mental and physical health issues but have limited access to quality psychology services. Rural services are often hampered by a lack of understanding of rural cultures by outsiders and a shortage of rural-based practitioners. A key challenge is to create a large, sustainable, and diversified workforce that can help rural communities recognize their unique context and develop appropriate and effective solutions. In addition, there is a need to raise awareness among rural and remote communities on the range of services offered by psychology practitioners.
