Kununurra has experienced a period of sustained growth in recent years flowing from increased investment in the Ord River agricultural industry, mining activity and growth of the Kimberley region as a tourist destination.

The proposal to develop stage 2 of the Ord River irrigation scheme is expected to generate a significant increase in local development, including temporary and permanent accommodation for the construction, seasonal and permanent workforces plus the creation of further support industry.
